"Global warming, ozone layer depletion, environmental degradation - are phrases that are definitely not new to us. These terms are neither unheard of nor is anyone unaware of the dangers they pose to our life on earth. But how many of us really do anything about it? Most of us simply leave it to our governments to sort out or complain that the big companies should clean up after themselves. We conveniently forget the inconvenient truth- that the mess is our own.

350.org attempts to change this outlook by calling on people all over the world, ordinary people from different walks of life "to build a movement- to take one day and use it to stop climate change". That is why 24 October 2009 has been marked as the International Day of Climate Action when people around the globe will unite under the most important number in the world, 350- the safe upper limit for CO2 in the atmosphere.

UniY Trivandrum, the university wing of the YMCA is proud to take the initiative and launch 'Green Earth' in Thiruvananthapuram on the Day of Action. "Thanal" and Alliance Francaise join us in our venture for a cleaner, greener tomorrow.

We invite you to take part in our programmes for the day and request you lend your voices in support of 350 before our leaders enter into talks at the crucial UN Climate Change Convention in Copenhagen in December 2009."
